Dr. Lakshmi CP

Dr. Lakshmi CP is Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist at the Sree Uthradom Thirunal (SUT) Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. With an MD in General Medicine and a DM in Medical Gastroenterology as her advanced qualifications, she began practising professionally almost 15 years back.

After obtaining the MBBS degree in March 2000, Dr. Lakshmi continued with her internship at the Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram until April 2001. Subsequently, on completion of her MD degree, she was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the same institution from January 2005 to June 2006, before going on to pursue her doctorate in Gastroenterology at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow. She then took up the post of Clinical Assistant Professor in Medical Gastroenterology at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, from August 2009 to February 2010. Her next stint was as Assistant Professor in Medical Gastroenterology at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Pondicherry from March 2010 to July 2013. She joined the SUT Hospital in July 2013, where she is currently based.

With more than a decade of experience behind her, Dr. Lakshmi CP is extremely competent in independently managing cases involving liver, pancreas, biliary tract as well as luminal disorders. She is capable of performing all endoscopic procedures including diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopies, side viewing and push enteroscopy, endoscopic therapy for portal hypertension including variceal ligation, sclerotherapy and gastric variceal glue injection and pneumatic dilatation for achalasia cardia. Dr. Lakshmi is also familiar with procedures such as oesophageal and colonic stricture dilatations, and oesophageal, biliary and colonic metallic stenting, besides being able to perform therapeutic ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatoscopy) procedures including sphincterotomy and stone extractions, biliary stricture dilatations, plastic and metallic stentings, pancreatic ductal sphincterotomy and pancreatic stenting. In addition, she has also been exposed to endoscopic polyectemy and emergency management of GI bleed using injection, hemoclip, APC and heater probes.

Dr. Lakshmi CP excelled at academics right from her school days, bagging several awards and citations over the years. She also has several research-based papers to her name, which have either been published as articles in indexed and non-indexed journals, or as book chapters, or presented at conferences connected to her field. She was instrumental in setting up the Department of Medical Gastroenterology in the new superspeciality block at JIPMER, Pondicherry. It currently caters to OPD, inpatient care, full-fledged diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services, teaching and active research work.
